“SOCKS FOR TROOPS”

In Memory of
Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey L. Chaney

The Jeff Chaney “Socks for the Troops” memorial fund was established on July 2007, in memory of Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey Chaney who was killed by a roadside bomb on July 17, 2007 in Iraq.
Most recently assigned to EODMU11 as a Senior EOD Technician, Jeff was a fourteen year Navy veteran who loved his job and fellow Teammates. Before deploying in May 2007, Jeff’s mother asked what she could get him to take to Iraq.
His only request was for “Smart Wool” socks. All the brothers he spoke to in Iraq wanted them and the ones who already had them said they were the best thing ever, because they wick away the perspiration, keeping their feet cool, dry and comfortable in the desert conditions.
In honor of his request, Jeff Chaney’s family went above and beyond, planning various fundraising events in order to supply Smartwool socks to all of the troops Jeff came in contact with.
Since Jeff’s tragic death in July 2007, his mother Connie and sister April have taken this endeavor one step further, vowing to raise enough money to put Smartwool socks on every Navy EOD Technician serving in Iraq.
This incredible effort was carried out as a tribute to their hero and ours, Jeff Chaney. The fundraisers passed expectations and the socks were delivered successfully.

Thank you to all those who helped and God Bless!
